Dilated Cardiomyopathy – the most common type can be caused by a decrease in the flow of blood to the heart, toxins, infections and certain types of drugs. It may also be genetic. Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy is the type in which heart muscle becomes abnormally thick due to age, high blood pressure or genes. Restrictive cardiomyopathy, the least common type, is caused by heart muscle becoming less elastic or rigid. There are no known causes for the condition.
